Refugee – Employment & Training Support (RETS) project provides capacity building, training, and advocacy support to refugees from Glasgow and North Lanarkshire, with particular focus on:

  • One-to-one support in employability pathways and education

  • Capacity building workshops and training (ESOL / digital / mentoring / employability skills)

  • Accessing Modern Apprenticeships and volunteering/work placements

  • Financial entitlements through welfare reform

  • Qualifications through SQA accreditations

Engaging with refugee communities from diverse backgrounds and at different stages within their employability journey, we deliver a bilingual and culturally sensitive service that is accessible to all.

Main Aims of Project

The project aims to:

  • Raise awareness of employment opportunities through social media and sign posting

  • Increase opportunities for diverse Refugees from Glasgow and North Lanarkshire to develop skills and competencies, to enter meaningful employment and education

  • Reduce inequalities by supporting individuals from refugee communities to improve their prospects and gain recognised qualifications, financial independence, and resilience.

What We Do

The project will deliver the following:

  • 2-week courses of in-house basic employability vocabulary course for including engaging with ESOL providers to provide further ESOL courses

  • One to one support offered with CV development, assisting in completing applications and interview skills

  • Soft skills training (one-to-one or sessions) on creating CV’s, filling application forms, interview skills, job search, and confidence building

  • IT/Digital workshops on MS office package and basic use of digital devices to reduce social isolation and enhance connection within the digital world

  • Advice and information on welfare, debt, housing, and other areas of wider service provision
