The project will work to empower and enable young people from the migrant Roma communities in Glasgow from Central and Eastern Europe to be more confident, enterprising and healthy by running a programme of arts and health based activities to reach the different groups of Roma young people (young people of school age and young mothers) to improve the communication and confidence of the young people as well as supporting their acquisition and enjoyment of new skills and enhancing their long term employability opportunities. The programme will be focused at young people and will happen after school, at weekends and during the school holidays.

Main Aims of Project

  • We help Roma people to organize healthy eating cookery classes, photography exhibitions, make short films and music

  • We support young people to increase their confidence through achievement and through learning new skills.

Target Communities

We work with young mothers and young people (16-25 years old) from Roma communities (Romania and Slovak)

Our Work

The film is an outcome of our engagement with Roma young people in Govanhill. The young people worked on this for several weeks. Firstly they got basic training in film making, then they worked on the script where they had to collectively decide about the content. After that they had to get all the props, acting and filming. At this point the film was edited by a professional film maker, however shortly we will be posting a new film edited by the Roma young people themselves. Watch out this space for updates.
